As we all know, FBB is horrible at choosing awards and all-star teams. I’ve made my own selections here that are undoubtedly better! If you think I may be biased – skip to the West SF selections for a surprise!
To make the selections, I used a proprietary formula that I use to value players. Onto the picks!
WEST
Center
Deandre Ayton - Pelicans
21 ppg - 12.7 rpg - 2 apg - 0.8 spg - 1.3 bpg - 1.6 topg
49% FG - 28% 3P - 77% FT
Hassan Whiteside - Timberwolves
18.6 ppg - 13.5 rpg - 1.4 apg - 0.8 spg - 2.9 bpg - 1.7 topg
47% FG - 67% 3P - 63% FT
These are the same selections as FBB made. No surprises – these are two efficient inside scorers and monster rebounders. They both have low turnovers for averaging around 20 ppg too. Ayton’s FT% is a nice bonus, while Whiteside has the blocks that put him a cut above the rest of the conference.
Power Forward
Anthony Davis - Rockets
25.2 ppg - 11.4 rpg - 3.2 apg - 1.1 spg - 2.6 bpg - 2.7 topg
49% FG - 37% 3P - 70% FT
Kristaps Porzingis - Kings
18.6 ppg - 10.5 rpg - 1.5 apg - 0.9 spg - 2.4 bpg - 1.3 topg
45% FG - 40% 3P - 77% FT
AD is obviously a stud, great %’s all around, big time scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker. FBB started him too.
I differ from FBB in taking Kristaps over Giannis. It was close, but there is a big gap in turnovers as Giannis averages nearly two more per game. I don’t value assists very much where Giannis has his biggest edge over Porzingis.
Point Guard
Stephen Curry - Thunder
27 ppg - 3 rpg - 6.7 apg - 1.7 spg - 0.1 bpg - 2.4 topg
51% FG - 47% 3P - 86% FT
Ben Simmons - Suns
14.7 ppg - 6.7 rpg - 8.9 apg - 2.4 spg - 0.4 bpg - 3.1 topg
49% FG - 00% 3P - 61% FT
Another perfect match with FBB. Curry is setting the league ablaze with his red hot shooting. Simmons is a unique player – amazing rebounds for a point guard, and a tidy fg%. He has high turnovers but his STOCKS almost match it.
Small Forward
Kevin Durant - Suns
31.9 ppg - 7.1 rpg - 6.1 apg - 1.5 spg - 1.1 bpg - 2.8 topg
50% FG - 45% 3P - 86% FT
LeBron James - Thunder
29.9 ppg - 10.2 rpg - 6.4 apg - 2.3 spg - 0.5 bpg - 2.5 topg
46% FG - 30% 3P - 72% FT
You thought I would make LeBron the starter just like FBB right? Well that would be wrong! KD has much higher shooting %’s making him a more effective offensive player. KD is averaging two more points per game on less shot attempts per game. Obviously, both are studs and easy selections to the team.
Shooting Guard
Kendrick Nunn - Pelicans
19.6 ppg - 3.8 rpg - 2.9 apg - 1 spg - 0.2 bpg - 1.4 topg
46% FG - 42% 3P - 82% FT
Devin Booker - Lakers
19.9 ppg - 5.5 rpg - 4.1 apg - 1 spg - 0.1 bpg - 2.3 topg
45% FG - 44% 3P - 83% FT
FBB picked Booker as the backup, but my selection to start is a surprise divergence! FBB had Beal in this spot, but Nunn’s efficient shooting and lack of turnovers en route to 20 ppg gives him the edge in my book. I’d expect Beal to be better the rest of the season, but credit to Nunn for a first 70 days.
EAST
Center
Joel Embiid - Heat
24.5 ppg - 12.5 rpg - 3.2 apg - 1.1 spg - 1.6 bpg - 3.6 topg
48% FG - 38% 3P - 78% FT
Nikola Jokic - Pacers
22.8 ppg - 10.3 rpg - 4.5 apg - 0.9 spg - 0.4 bpg - 1.8 topg
48% FG - 32% 3P - 67% FT
FBB selected both of these guys for the team, and I agree. I just flip-flopped who starts. Give me Embiid and his higher points, rebounds, steals, blocks, 3p%, and ft%. The turnovers are higher but he is awesome in every other way. Jokic is still great in his own right, a unique center, but the lack of blocks hurts. Less than half a game is poor for a center.
Power Forward
Dario Saric - Bucks
16.5 ppg - 8.9 rpg - 1.9 apg - 0.9 spg - 0.3 bpg - 1.7 topg
48% FG - 39% 3P - 69% FT
Marvin Bagley - Knicks
16.5 ppg - 8.6 rpg - 2.9 apg - 0.8 spg - 0.9 bpg - 2.1 topg
48% FG - 36% 3P - 71% FT
FBB had Bagley as the backup and Siakam the starter. I actually prefer Dario’s season so far – he’s been ultra efficient! Converting shots to points is important folks!
Point Guard
Kyrie Irving - Nets
34.1 ppg - 5.5 rpg - 3.5 apg - 1.5 spg - 0.3 bpg - 2 topg
53% FG - 47% 3P - 86% FT
Kemba Walker - Magic
25.8 ppg - 3.8 rpg - 3 apg - 1.4 spg - 0.1 bpg - 2.2 topg
49% FG - 42% 3P - 86% FT
Somehow Kyrie wasn’t selected to the team by FBB! That is INSANE. He is breaking the game right now – 34 PPG on almost league leading efficiency. He is looking like an MVP nevermind an all-star. Kemba has been no slouch either, lighting the league up to almost Curry type of levels and pouring in points constantly.
FBB picked Lillard to start and Graham as the backup – clearly overvaluing assists! Or maybe I undervalue them!
Small Forward
Kawhi Leonard - Grizzlies
31.4 ppg - 8.1 rpg - 4.8 apg - 2.4 spg - 0.4 bpg - 2.6 topg
51% FG - 42% 3P - 83% FT
Jayson Tatum - Hawks
25.7 ppg - 6.4 rpg - 1.9 apg - 1.4 spg - 0.6 bpg - 2 topg
47% FG - 39% 3P - 73% FT
The Klaw is arguably the best player in the league and FBB rightfully picked him to start the ASG. I selected Tatum as the backup vs FBB’s choice, Jimmy Butler. It was super close between them, so I went with the guy who has much more points per game (26 vs 21).
Shooting Guard
James Harden - Grizzlies
30.7 ppg - 6.3 rpg - 4 apg - 2.4 spg - 0.5 bpg - 3.5 topg
52% FG - 39% 3P - 86% FT
C.J. McCollum - 76ers
29.8 ppg - 4.8 rpg - 3.9 apg - 1.5 spg - 0.3 bpg - 2.3 topg
48% FG - 40% 3P - 80% FT
Harden is a walking BUCKET. Easy call to have him start, so I agree with FBB. I also agreed with having McCollum the backup. I love 40% three point shooting and getting 30 ppg efficiently is no joke!
To make the selections, I used a proprietary formula that I use to value players. Onto the picks!
