It was a crisp evening in Las Vegas as 29 Top flight League GM's gather for the league's 1st ever draft and after 13 hours of picks, trades and many ups and downs a clear 1st RD winner emerged....The Oklahoma City Thunder and their GM Frangie put two firm grips on the League's inaugural season. OKC GM waited patiently just beyond the top 10 and the leagues best player LeBron James fell to his lap. The NBA's GOAT was this leagues Big Prize but many GMS before him went for younger building blocks whie OKC' GM waited and waited patiently like a Lion on the hunt and snatched the 35 yr old LBJ thus putting the league on noticed to quote a Scorpions rock song "Here I am Rock you like a Hurricane" But the Hurricane was about to become a Biblical Storm and no one could predict what was coming.
A few hours passed and GMs a plenty kept finding building pieces to start their franchise. Trades were on the quiet front. Most were of the move up a few spots here and there but then Raprors GM Hokey made it known that his pick #19 was available and the phones begun to ring like a 911 call center in the midst of a natural disaster. As the evening became night 2 GMs (Frangie and Codfather) were letting Raptors GM know they were all in for #19. OKC's GM struck 1st and NOP's GM the Godfather strucked next topping Once deal of 4 future 1sts and 4 future 2nds by adding his 5th round creation pick. What happened next in a flurry of back and forth dialogue was legit chaos. OKC GM upped the offer to a Creation 4th and Godfather quickly upped that to his higher and better 4th. Quiet followed, silence ruled OKC was hesitant to go higher, Godfather held the lead and drew his line in the sand. But OKC went there ..yes they did .. Sacrificing potential depth for the All in with 3 approach and offered up its 3rd round pick, Godfather had a higher 3rd and could have made . final push to land #1 but his approach to the draft was a little different and focused on the next 5 yrs and not so much on the next 2 so he backed off. The trade was finalized and OKC having secured LBJ was about to land the NBAs modern era most prolific field General.
Steph Curry come on down to OKC the highlights of the Night read. Yes acquiring #19 and landing Steph Curry instantly told the league "Here I am AND I will Rock you all like a Hurricane" The duo of LBJ and Curry bring a 1-2 punch capable of 65 ppg and a plethora of Championships with them. Good luck to the rest of us mere mortals for the next 1 2 or perhaps even 3 seasons. But the draft is young and the rounds are long, could anyone maneuver and talk his way into the conversation yet? Stay tuned as the draft begins its 2nd rd....But one thing is Certain Round ONE belonged to the OKC Thunder and it wasn't even close....
